A few anniversaries

This time of the year actually marks a few anniversaries when it comes to some of the data breach group actions that we are representing people for. These include:

• In early 2019, The (PFEW) Police Federation of England and Wales data breach incidents came to light. It was feared that some 120,000 people may have been affected across 40 different forces after they were caught up in a large-scale cyberattack.
• It was in March 2020 that the discovery of the 118 118 Money data breach was in the media. There had been an unauthorised access event involving their network, and some customer information was accessed by the criminals.
• Also in March 2020, the Robert Dyas data breach event took place which involved malware being used to access customer data transactions during that month.
• And again, in March 2020, there was the infamous Watford Community Housing data leak that led to personal details for residents being leaked in an emailed spreadsheet.
• In February 2021, it was discovered that Grosvenor Casinos had suffered a cyberattack that affected member data such as names, addresses and birth dates.

But it seems that the start of the year – particularly March – can be a busy time of the year for data breaches. The Virgin Media data leak discussed above also came to light in March 2020 as well.
